I am a Heatherlea condominium owner who has resided at Heatherlea since 1985, the beginning. The purpose of this Blog is to expose activities of the:
- Heatherlea Board,
- Property Management (Klingbeil, Powell and Altruz),
- Association Attorneys (including Kimberly O’Halloran-Perez, Rees, and Broome);
- and contractors (including Shenandoah Landscaping)
that have and continue to appear to violate State and Federal laws and regulations, and/or the Heatherlea governing documents.
Before starting the Blog, I tried for nearly two years to resolve issues with the Association. When Property Management failed to resolve things, I tried the Board who was largely unresponsive. All along I provided information and resources (much as I have done on this blog) in attempts to engage the Association in doing the right things (primarily coming into compliance with laws, regulations and the governing documents) – not just for me, but the entire Heatherlea community – all to no avail.
Heatherlea of Arlington, Virginia is 7.65 acres and consists of 185 units – 25 townhomes and 160 garden style apartments. Heatherlea is a secretive, unhealthy, entrenched community. As such, when individuals seek positive changes, there are community members who want to get rid of – silence – those individuals seeking the changes because they are a threat to the system.
Those seeking to maintain the status quo, try to silence those seeking change in several ways. One is by making them “bad,” “wrong,” or calling them “crazy.” This may result in ridding the community of the most healthy, functional people. Another way is pressuring those seeking change to “get back in line” and become “team players.” A third way, is ignoring those seeking change and hoping they will go away.
There is another response to the call for change. It happens least often (rarely). It is that the community recognizes those seeking change as great resources for the community and positive change is initiated. That, so far, has not been the choice of the Heatherlea community who has sought, and continues to seek, to maintain the status quo. Thus the creation of this Blog.
